1997 Imported Black German Riding Pony Stallion

14.2 hands

Licensed and approved Westfalen, Rhineland, Weser-Ems and American Sport Pony Registry.

This versatile black stallion was champion of his approval in Munster-Handorf Germany in 1999. He was so good in fact that he was purchased at the approval by a member of the stallion approval committee. He went on to complete his 30 days test with an outstanding fourth place overall with a score of 8.0, and individual scores of 9 on free jumping and 9 on rideability.

As a 3 and 4 year old, Lateran won many riding horse tests, even against large warmbloods, including Dollman, who went on to become Bundeschampion. He competed at the Bundeschampionat as a 3 yr old in the dressage pony class, where he placed 9th in the final.  As a 5 and 6 year old Lateran won many times at first level dressage, again against large warmbloods. He went on to win at second level as a 6 and 7 year old. In addition he competed successfully in open jumpers, combined training and quadrille.

Lateran’s sire, Lukas is a champion dressage pony and successful sire. His name can be found in the pedigrees of many top sport ponies in Germany.  Lukas' dam sire Night Star 1 was champion of the Westfalen keuring, champion of the stallion licensing test, was second at the German DLG show in Frankfurt, and Vicebundeschampion of all jumping ponies.   Lateran’s mother, Nenci,  was sired by the great Nordcap, and traces back to the influential lines of Nazim.  Nenci was very successful in dressage, jumping and eventing, and has given birth to 11 foals. At the age of 29 she is still healthy and strong! Lateran’s brother, Gigolo is a top dressage pony in Great Britain, and was a member of the bronze medal winning European Championship team in 2004.

From his first foal crop he has two approved daughters, and two gelding sons, Lambourghini and Lollipop, qualified for the Bundeschampionat and the Elite sale in October 2004. Lucky Luke by Lateran out of a Dressman 1/ Amir mare was approved as a stallion in 2004, placing 7th out of 87 ponies at his keuring. Lucky Luke also competed in the Bundeschampionat for three year old dressage ponies, and now stands at stud in Marl, Germany.  Landliebe, by Lateran out of a Contreau mare, was champion 3 yr old pony mare at the Wadersloher Fohlenschau in July 2004.   Lanier, by Lateran out of a Dressman 1 mare, has been extremely successful in dressage and jumping, winning many classes against large warmbloods.  Lollipop, by Lateran out of an FS Golden Moonlight mare, was certified for the 2006 NRW Winter Elite Sale.  Four of Lateran's foals were sold in-utero: 2 in 2006, one in 2007, and so far one for 2008.  His son Larkspur was site champion against warmbloods at his GOV inspection.

Only two weeks out of quarantine in America, Lateran was Site Champion at the ASPR Inspection where he was approved First Premium Premier with a score of 8.2.  He was presented to the Weser-Ems registry in 2005 and was immediately approved.   In July 2005 he won the stallion class at the USDF Breeders Championship Series Qualifier.   Lateran was shown dressage on the southern California circuit, where he scored in the high 60's and 70's in open classes at first level in 2005.   He is currently showing 2nd level open, schooling third level.  Lateran was High Point Open 2nd Level Champion at the Del Mar National Horse show against tough competition, beating all the big warmbloods.  He received four 9's and a 10, and won the judges hearts!  He is currently ranked 38th out of 248 horses in the nation in the USDF 2nd level Horse of the Year awards.  At the Regional Championships Lateran was placed third in the USDF Breeders Championship Final against top warmblood stallions with a final score over 75% and was the California Dressage Society 2006 High Score Pony Champion.
